On the morning of March 24, 2021, the Spring Meeting of the Teaching Steering Committee of School of General Engineering was held in the conference room D1103 of the New Main Building. All members of the Teaching Steering Committee，including Zhou Ning, Wu Qianhong, Jia Yuhong, Xu Ye, Wen Dongsheng and Sun Xiaoqian, attended the meeting which was presided over by Vice Dean Sun Xiaoqian.
The meeting began with a summary of the course supervision work of last semester, and each teacher commented on the courses they supervised. Next, the meeting discussed the evaluation and supervision plan for the follow-up courses. Professor Zhou Ning pointed out that the international courses emphasize the use of English in presentations, PPT and exams, but in in-depth discussions and answers to questions in Chinese may be more beneficial to students' understanding of the course content. At the same time, as an international school, it is necessary to pay more attention to the output of values in such aspects as political thought, family-country collective consciousness, lofty ideal and sense of inclusiveness. It is also suggested that the school should expand alumni resources, build SGE practice base, and improve teaching quality by combining practice with theory. Professor Wu suggested that the supervising group be expanded and retired teachers be employed to enhance the supervision.
The meeting also discussed the revision of the major setup and cultivation program of SGE. Professor Jia Yuhong put forward the suggestion of setting up SGE's own comprehensive experimental course of aerospace engineering. Teacher Xu Ye suggested to refine the curriculum setting, further comb the curriculum content and improve the curriculum syllabus. Vice Dean Sun Xiaoqian said that the school would feed back the opinions to the teachers to improve the teaching quality, and seek further opinions from the experts in the follow-up revision of the major setup and cultivation program.
Dean Wen Dongsheng made a summary of the meeting, and hoped that teachers of the supervising group would further support the work of the school, tap the high-quality resources inside and outside the school, and ensure that the school’s teaching work serves for the cultivation of advanced and cutting-edge talents in the world.
